Town Meeting 2006

TOWN MEETING DAY: MARCH 7, 2006
Starting Time: 4:45 PM
Article 7 (Town Budget) will be considered at 5:15 PM
Australian Ballot: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Two informational meetings to ask questions about the Rumney School budget will be held beforehand:

  1. Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Town Hall;
  2. Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the Rumney School Library.
    Both meetings will begin at 7:00 pm.

One informational meeting to ask questions about the U-32 High School budget will be held beforehand:
Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 6:00 pm at U-32 in room 131.

Our Selectboard (with the generous assistance of citizen John Riley) has provided two pie charts and a handy spreadsheet chart to provide us some perspective on the town budgets. Take a look:

  1. Total Middlesex Expenses: Where It Goes
  2. Total Municipal Expenses: Where it Goes (no school expenses in this chart)
  3. Tax Chart: What each Article will cost in Taxes

The last chart is a chart of the costs of particular Articles to citizens with three different tax appraisals. The final line shows what each additional $1,000 in town spending would cost each of those citizens.

Simple math proportions will provide other answers: e.g., someone with a $175,000 appraisal would pay 1.75 times the $100,000 appraisal cost; so that the Kellog-Hubbard Library Article would cost 1.75 times $9.59, or $16.78.

Please Note: Taxes are estimated based on last year's Grand List and certain revenue estimates; actual taxes may be slightly different.
